City of Heroes®/City of Villains® Comic Book Creator Contest

NC Interactive, Inc. and Planetwide Media are pleased to announce the City of Heroes® / City of Villains® Comic Book Creator Contest!

Participants will be able to enter by submitting a four to eight-page comic book entry, utilizing featured super-powered hero and villain characters from their online game play, along with a collection of City of Heroes and City of Villains images, icons, symbols and artwork, created by the Planetwide Media's Comic Book Creator™ software.

It is easy to get involved!

If you don't already have it, visit http:www.MyComicBookCreator.com/ to download a free, 30-day trial version of the Original Comic Book Creator software that you will use to assemble your comic book submission.
Make your hero or villain and plan out a 4 to 8 page comic with a cover page. Take screenshots in the game and assemble them with the Comic Book Creator software to make your submission.
The content of the comic can be of just about anything! It must be recognizable as consisting of screenshots taken from City of Heroes or City of Villains. Follow this link for more information about taking screenshots in the game. We also ask that you keep in mind the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct when planning out and executing your comic sequences and playing the game. But most of all, have fun with it and be creative!
Output your final, finished comic to a .jpg or PDF file and attach it to an e-mail for submission. Or, you can post your comic up to Hypercomics.com. Send an e-mail addressed to cohsubmissions@cityofheroes.ca with the subject heading "Comic Book Creator Contest" and include your file attachment or the URL link to where your comic is posted to Hypercomics.com.

Any copyrighted heroes and/or trademarked names will be automatically disqualified! We're talking comic book heroes, T.V. characters, movie characters, etc. If it's a recognizable, copyrighted character from a property that isn't owned by Cryptic Studios or NC Interactive, Inc., it can't be submitted for this contest. You must make sure your entry doesn't infringe on any patent, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right, or any privacy, publicity or publishing rights of any third party, or is libelous, obscene or otherwise contrary to law.

Judging:

A panel of celebrity judges will judge the contest submissions, including:

Marv Wolfman, legendary comic book writer
David Nakayama, esteemed comic book artist
Matt Miller, Lead Game Designer for City of Heroes and City of Villains

All submissions will be judged equally on the following criteria:

Artistry, Imagery and Composition
Story, Character Development, Humor and Action
Use of the City of Heroes and City of Villains storyline

The process for judging will be as follows:

The City of Heroes Community Team will make initial cuts based on the above criteria to narrow the field for our celebrity judges.
The panel of celebrity judges will be asked to rate each of the remaining submissions on a scale of 1 to 10 on the above categories. Based on these judgments, winners to each category will be determined.

City of Heroes ®/City of Villains® Comic Book Creator® Contest Official Rules and Conditions

1. ENTRY
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. This is a contest of skill and, therefore, there are no odds of winning as is the case with a game of chance. Here is what contestants must do to enter this contest:

1) Send an e-mail addressed to cohsubmissions@cityofheroes.ca with the subject heading "Comic Book Creator Contest." Include the following information:

* The name and server of your in-game hero or villain. Please attach the screenshot of this character to the e-mail. Note: This is the character that will receive the in-game title!
* Contest category/categories you want to be considered for (Best Overall, Best Action and/or Best Story). Please note that the judges reserve the right to consider you for all three.
* Your registered message board display name (if you are a member of the forum).
* Your real name (first/last).
* Your age.
* Your full mailing address -- street, city, state/province, zip, country of residence.
* Your contact phone number (This is required for the shipping of prizes. It may also be used as a back-up method of contacting you - but will be used for no other purpose).

2) Contestants may submit up to three attachments along with their e-mail. Two are required.

* One full frontal screenshot of contestant's in-game hero or villain. This is the character that will receive the in game title. It is not necessary for this character to be depicted in the comic. AND
* A .jpg or PDF output of your final comic, generated from the Comic Book Creator Software. OR
* If you post your final comic to Hypercomics.com, you may submit the URL to the comic as your method of entry. Please note that once submitted to Hypercomics.com a comic cannot be edited, so please only send in your final, finished comic URL.

2) All Comic Book Creator submissions must conform to the following guidelines:

* All submissions must be at a minimum 3 pages of comic and include a cover page (for a total of 4 pages).
* All submissions may be at most 8 pages of comic and include a cover page (for a total of 9 pages).
* All submissions must be recognizable as consisting of screen shots from City of Heroes or City of Villains. Editing or moderation such as applying filters or other artistic adjustments are fine, as long as the content remains recognizable as consisting of screenshots from the games.

NC Interactive reserves the right to consider each contestant for every available contest category, not just the one/s specified by participant.

NC Interactive collects personal information from you when you enter this contest. This information is subject to the Privacy Policy (http://www.plaync.com/help/privacy.html) of the site through which you entered the contest.

All entries must be received via e-mail prior to 11:59pm (CDT), April 27, 2007 (the "Contest Conclusion") and must be in English. No other methods of entry will be accepted. Limit: one entry per person.

NC Interactive, Inc., Cryptic Studios, Inc. and PlanetWide Media (collectively, the "Sponsor") are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, incorrect, unintelligible or misdirected entries, which will be void. Use of a false name, username, mailing address or e-mail account will disqualify an entry and the individual who submitted the entry. Use of obscenities, racist, sexist, hateful or other material or depictions that, in Sponsor's judgment, are inappropriate or offensive, will disqualify an entry. Sponsor is not responsible for hardware or software malfunctions, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic or other communications. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, can disqualify from this Contest and any other contest conducted by Sponsor, any person who, in Sponsor's reasonable suspicion, tampers with the entry process or the operation of the web site, or who otherwise violates these rules or any of part of the City of Heroes® or City of Villains® User Agreement. Sponsor has the right to terminate, suspend or modify this Contest, in whole or in part, at any time and without prior notice, if, in Sponsor's judgment, the Contest is altered, corrupted or cannot be completed as planned due to computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures, or other conditions beyond Sponsor's control, or at Sponsor's reasonable discretion. Incomplete entries are invalid, and contestants with incomplete entries will be disqualified. You must make sure your entry doesn't infringe on any patent, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right, or any privacy, publicity or publishing rights of any third party, or is libelous, obscene or otherwise contrary to law.

2. ELIGIBILITY
To enter the contest as of March 16, 2007, (a) you must be 13 years of age or older, (b) you must have Internet access, an e-mail account and access to a personal computer, (c) you must be a resident of the United States (excluding the State of Rhode Island, and excluding Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. territories, military installations and commonwealths) or Canada (excluding Quebec) (Canadian residents will be required to answer an additional mathematical question in order to claim their prizes), and (d) you must be a current City of Heroes® and/or City of Villains® subscriber (meaning you must have an active account). Employees of each Sponsor, and of their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, representatives, advertising, promotion and publicity agencies and members of the immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings and spouse, regardless of where they reside) or households of such employees are not eligible. Contest is void where prohibited, restricted or taxed by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

3. DURATION
The contest period begins at 2:00pm (CDT) on March 27, 2007, and ends at 11:59pm (CDT) on April 27, 2006.

4. SELECTION OF WINNING ENTRIES
The winning submissions will be determined by representatives of the Sponsor, and will be judged equally on the following criteria: Artistry, Imagery and Composition, Story, Character Development, Humor, Action and Use of the City of Heroes and City of Villains storyline. Winners will be notified via e-mail and announced on the City of Heroes® web site along with their winning comic entries no later than Friday, June 15. Entrants agree to be bound by the Official Rules and Conditions and any all decisions of the City of Heroes Community Team and the Celebrity Judges which are final and binding in all respects.

5. PRIZES

If winner cannot be contacted at the e-mail address they submitted, or is contacted and does not respond by signing and returning to us for our receipt within the time indicated on the documents, an Affidavit of Eligibility (or, in Canada, a Declaration of Compliance with Contest Rules) and Liability/Publicity Release, or refuses or is ineligible to accept a prize, the prize may be awarded to the next highest ranking entrant on or about Friday, May 11, 2007. Any prize not claimed by one alternately chosen winner will not be awarded. Prizes are not transferable. No substitution of prize for cash or other goods and services is permitted, except Sponsor reserves the right to provide a substitute prize of approximately equal value. Taxes on prizes (including, without limitation, income or withholding taxes), if any, are the sole responsibility of the individual winners. If a winner is under 18 or a minor in his or her state/province/country of residence, his or her parent or guardian must also sign the applicable release and documentation.

Winners will have web links to their comic and their forum (or real names) and city/state or province/country of residence posted on the front page of the City of Heroes® web site (http://www.cityofheroes.com), My Comic Book Creator web site (http://www.mycomicbookcreator.com/) and/or Hypercomics.com. To showcase our members of the game community, winners who have reached the age of majority may be asked to answer some questions, provide personal information and/or to send Sponsor a personal headshot photo. The winner can decline to provide any or all the information in the prior sentence with respect to postings on the web site only. This information will be used to recognize the winner on the pages of http://www.cityofheroes.com, http://www.cityofvillains.com, http://www.mycomicbookcreator.com and/or Hypercomics.com but is not necessary to claim a prize.

6. GENERAL CONDITIONS
By entering into the contest, (a) you agree to all of the terms and conditions of these Official Rules and Conditions, (b) you warrant that your entry is your own original work and that it does not violate the rights of any third party (including, without limitation, any patent, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right, or any privacy, publicity or publishing rights of any third party, or is libelous, obscene or otherwise contrary to law), (c)you assign and agree to assign to Sponsor all rights, title and interest, including, without limitation, copyright, in or to your entry, (d) you agree that Sponsor may post your user or forum name (or real name) and hometown on Sponsor's website and in any and all publicity and advertising for Sponsor, this Contest or other promotions by Sponsor without any further attribution, notification or compensation to you, except where prohibited by law, (e) you agree to be contacted by Sponsor or its agents by telephone, mail or e-mail, and (f) you agree to sign the documentation set forth in Section 5 above (and have your parent or guardian sign such documentation where applicable or requested by Sponsor). Entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Each Sponsor and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion and publicity agencies and all of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns are not in any way responsible or liable for damages, loss or injury resulting from participation in this Contest or acceptance, loss or use of any prizes awarded in this Contest. You further agree that in any cause of action, Sponsor's liability will be limited to the cost of entering and participating in the Contest, and in no event shall Sponsor be liable for attorney's fees. You waive the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages. The winners of this contest will be posted on http://www.cityofheroes.com and My Comic Book Creator web site (http://www.mycomicbookcreator.com/) or Hypercomics.com no later than Friday, June 15, 2007. A list of winners can also be obtained by sending a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope to City of Heroes/City of Villains Comic Book Creator Contest, NC Interactive, Inc., 6801 N. Capital of Texas Hwy, Bldg1, Ste102, Austin, TX 78731. Residents of Canada may omit return postage.
